Dynamic Gaitscan – Something to think about

As a minimalist runner, you are probably thrilled to be reaping the benefits of such an efficient, and more importantly biomechanically safe form of running technique. The Chi Running method (example), has allowed countless runners to avoid short term as well as long term injury to the lower extremities.
One the challenges facing a good portion of the running population is foot, knee and/or hip pain.  This can be a factor no matter what running technique you practice, or how incredible your new running shoes may be.  Foot problems arise from many different sources incuding genetic factors, traumatic injury or repetitive over use.

The basic solution for overcoming these challenges lies in correcting the biomechanic dysfuction.  There are two schools of thought in doing so.  These include, Rigid orthotics, dynamic orthotics and appropriate rehabilitation.  In my efforts to address the patient who seeks care for the problems noted, I have had huge success in addressing the issue from a dynamic angle.  After evaluation and diagnosis of the condition, I find that rigid orthotics or foot exercises fall short of facilitating two things:

1. Providing permanent symptom relief along with a long term solution to the condition.

2.  Rigid orthotics do not allow the runner to work their way into the potential for building the intrinsic (residing within the foot) muscles so as to work toward the ultimate goal of a minimalist shoe and the use of our best shock absorbers, or own joint structure.

The process includes an accurate evaluation, gait scan and most importantly “A Plan”

Massage Therapy in Seal Beach.

OPR has a new team member! Kimberly Smith, help us welcome her. Here is a message from KIM!
Recommended massage length 60-75 minutes – Allows time for client to relax and therapist to address multiple areas of concern. (90 minutes is available)
$20 for Every 15 Minutes;  30 Minute Minimum
Therapeutic/Sports Massage – A targeted massage to improve function in a specific area. Techniques including myofascial, positional, and active release are used with varying degrees of pressure;  Hot or cold stones may be used to facilitate muscle cooperation.
Lymph Massage – A light massage with soft pumping action in the direction of the lymph nodes.  This technique improves the immune system, metabolism, and waste elimination.  An essential part of any detox regimen.
Pregnancy Massage – A medium pressure massage done in a “sideline” position with pillows to make this a very relaxing treatment.  Massage is appropriate during all months of pregnancy as long as the correct positioning and proper techniques are used.  Heat and very deep pressure are avoided for the comfort of the Mother.

Benefits of Massage

1) Manage Anxiety, Depression, and Stress

2) Ease Pain and Increase Muscle Function

3) Improve Sleep and Muscle Recovery

4) Boost Immunity and Wellbeing

5) Raise Alertness and Body Awareness

Massage Do’s and Dont’s

Do’s

1) Drink water but eat light– hydrated muscles and skin respond better to massage

2) Make appointment at least one day ahead of time to ensure you get the day and

time that best fits your schedule

3) Clean bodies are appreciated – skin will be more apt to absorb oil nutrients

4) Undress to your comfort level – you will be draped appropriately (underwear is

always ok to leave on)

5) Communicate with your therapist –medical conditions, allergies, concerns; Please

speak up immediately if you are in pain or uncomfortable

Dont’s

1) Last minute cancellations do not give enough time for another client to book that

hour – time has been reserved just for you so don’t miss out

2) Drinking alcohol is not recommended – massage may intensify the affects and make

driving dangerous

3) Showering after your massage is not necessary – essential oils help your body heal –

excess oil is removed with sheet or hot towels

4) Don’t wait too long – get a massage at least once a month for maintenance – but

more often is better so the root cause can be addressed rather than the symptom
